Message from Principal
Wesley Methodist School Melaka is an education institution established by the Methodist Church in Malaysia in 1994 and presently under the aegis of the Council of Education, Methodist Church in Malaysia. The school is strategically located in a quiet, peaceful environment off Jalan Tengkera. It is a co-education institution, offering reasonably priced private education to a wide range of students who prefer a more conducive and stimulating teaching-learning environment and a culture that encourages students to be creative, to articulate themselves and to interact with one another across the gender, ethnic and social divide in a less formal context. With regard to this, cross cultural interaction is a forte of the school as about 15% of the students are from foreign countries. |
What makes us distinctive?
School Enrolment
To ensure maximum efficiency in school administration and to enable the school to function as a close-knit community the total enrolment would be maintained at around 250.
Teacher- Student Ratio
The number of students in a class would not exceed 20 giving a teacher-student ratio of 1 teacher to 10 students to ensure personal student attention and optimum progress.
Environment
The right environment is provided to form well rounded and creative learners with right values. Small classes enable the school to provide greater attention than is customary in our educational system. All students have the opportunity to be involved in school activities that can enhance their leadership qualities, boost their confidence, bring out their creativity and develop their potentials. An English-speaking environment in the school further enhances students’ competency in English. English is used as the language for communication in the school at all levels. Computer assisted teaching-learning and thinking skills pedagogy are part of our strategy to stimulate learning in our students. In addition, close monitoring of a student’s academic progress is carried out constantly and where necessary, extra coaching is provided.
English Language Proficiency
The school places special emphasis on the teaching of English not just as a second language but also aims at maintaining a high standard of proficiency in both written and spoken English. The students are also trained to take Cambridge English Examinations, English for Science and Technology, participate in International Competitions and Assessments for schools (ICAS) in subjects like Mathematics, Science, English, Writing and Computer Skills as well as other qualifying English examinations. Students who graduate from this school can successfully pursue twinning programmes with overseas universities or tertiary education overseas with their competence in English and be marketable in the working world later in life.
Computer Literacy
The school prides itself on its ability to provide systematic computer programmes for all its students from Form 1 to 3. By the time the students are in upper secondary education or when they leave school, they will have no difficulties in essential computer skills and up-to-date application of soft-ware and Internet system.
Christian Heritage
In all our endeavours, we are supported by an environment immersed in Christian values. Respect for each other and freedom of worship is the trademark of the school.
The school curriculum is based on the courses of studies set by the Education Ministry of Malaysia. Lower Secondary students sit for the Penilaian Menengah Rendah (PMR) examination while Upper Secondary students sit for the Sijil Pelajaran Malaysia (SPM) examination. Beginning 2012 when the teaching of Mathematics and Science reverts back to Bahasa Malaysia in government schools, Wesley Methodist School Melaka will teach both the subjects bilingually i.e. in Bahasa Malaysia and in English so that our students are able to sit for local examinations as well as pursue twinning programmes with overseas universities or tertiary education overseas In 2014, Wesley Methodist School Melaka will also offer IGCSE Mathematics, Science and English to Form 1 students to further enhance their competence in English. The teachers are committed to walk alongside students to help them realise their God given talents and potentials. The school believes that the teachers can complement the home in the responsibility and task of nurturing, training and promoting character formation and responsible citizenship. To God Be The Glory.
